Good bye Orkut !!

To,
Dearest #Orkut
Father of #FB , #Twitter , #Instagram and many more to come.
Subject :- Your #farewell !!

It was the year 2007 when I was introduced to you first time, one of my friend was constantly looking at his desktop smiling in between and completely ignoring me, when inquired he said that he is busy in #Orkutting , this is when I was introduced to the amazing world of yours. He helped me to create my account and told me the mesmerizing stories about you, that how by using orkut he has now so many girl-friends, how he can go to any favorite group of his according to his interest and “Scrap” the people out there and become friends.

Initially I hesitated but later after few days I decided and joyfully came into your world, I made many friends by your help, searched a lot of old and lost friends …. #Scrapped everyone, created many groups and become the administrator of many more.

Just because of you I made international friends too, in the countries like Brazil, Canada, Dubai and many more. It was so fun to write beautiful #testimonials for your friends, boss and anyone you try to impress and in return they also wrote long, designer testimonials for you. Like an elder in the family you also supported all the times by enhancing yourself and trying to always improve to give us satisfaction and joy: I was much elated when I was able to upload many pictures and create folders there which was initially limited to 10.

I was launched and was introduced to this world and it was just because of ORKUT and ORKUTTING, but time grew and gradually everyone moved to # Facebook and various other #social #networking sites but today I want to tell you that my love and affection for you was always there so till now I did not deleted my orkut profile, because I could not. We loved you dearly, as you taught our # generation how to use Social networking and inspired many others to develop more advanced platforms to keep us happy, but your contribution in #revolutionizing the social #media will always be remembered. With gratitude in my heart and tears in my eyes, I bid the final BYE to you in the form of this TESTIMONIAL written for you.

Scrapfully Yours
Sujeeth

The wall in Mother Teresa's home for children in Calcutta:

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.  LOve them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.  Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.  Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.  Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.

Self Appraisal – Must Read Short Story of a Small Boy…!!!

A little boy went to a telephone booth which was at the cash counter of a store and dialed a number.  The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation:

Boy: “Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn?

Woman: (at the other end of the phone line) “I already have someone to cut my lawn.”

Boy: “I will cut your lawn for half the price than the person who cuts your lawn now.”

Woman: I’m very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn.

Boy: (with more perseverance) “ I’ll even sweep the floor and the stairs of your house for free.

Woman: No, thank you.

With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy.

Store Owner: “Son… I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a job.”

Boy: “No thanks,

Store Owner: But you were really pleading for one.

Boy: No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to…….

MORAL: – ** THIS IS CALLED SELF APPRAISAL** Give your best and the world comes to you!!!!!

A lesson about markets: “I will buy your monkeys”

This is probably an ancient story, now widely circulating around the Internet.  It’s a powerful tale, very appropriate for today.

Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the
villagers that he would buy monkeys for Rs. 10/-

The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the
forest and started catching them.

The man bought thousands at Rs. 10/- and as supply started to diminish,
the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now
buy at Rs. 20/- This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started
catching monkeys again.

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to
their farms. The OFFER rate increased to Rs. 25/- and the supply of
monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey,

let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at Rs50! However, since he
had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on
behalf of him.

In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. Look at all
these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them
to you at Rs35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell it to
him for Rs. 50/-

The villagers squeezed up with all their savings and bought all the
monkeys.

Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys
everywhere!!!

One story a day : Reliving childhood !!!

Happy Teachers' Day!

We all remember doing something special for our teachers on the occasion of “Teacher’s day” on September 5th , when in school or even at college. But how many of us actually remember the same teachers as we grow up? For most of us, September 5th is like any other day except for a few articles in the daily newspaper or a few dedications on FM radio!

It’s only when Abhay came up wanting to make a card for his class teacher that I remembered my past teachers at school, college and law college. When in school, a class teacher plays a pivotal role in a child’s school year, both in terms of academics and otherwise – a class teacher can make it your best or the worst school year!  For instance, the first thing you look out for as the school reopens is who your class teacher is and similarly the  class teacher figures uppermost while reminiscing about a particular school year or during school reunions.

In a recent meeting with school friends, it was fun recollecting all our class teachers from Kindergarten to Class X…..and we remembered each and every one of them! The role of a teacher can never be undermined - beginning from a more nurturing yet instructive role at primary and middle school to a more supervisory yet involved role in high school and finally to a more understated yet insightful role in college – a huge thank you to all  the teachers in my life!

This week’s “Young World”, children’s supplement of the Hindu has a Teacher’s day special and today I read “"Teacher's Pet?"” by Indira Ananthakrishnan  from it’s Quick Read section. The school reopened and Mrs. Verma was the class V teacher and as she was recapitulating the lessons from the previous year, she noticed that all  students had done well except Muthu, who was a C-Grader. As she made enquiries with other teachers as to what was wrong, she learned that Muthu, a bright student otherwise, was trying to grapple with the tragic loss of his mother who had passed away during summer vacations.

So Mrs. Verma took it upon herself to help him overcome his personal difficulties so that he could concentrate and excel in his academics. Muthu after all didn’t disappoint his teacher and came third in his final exams. On teacher’s day, Muthu thanked his teacher with a special gift – his mother’s pearl bracelet! Years went by and Muthu graduated from school and went on to pursue further studies. Years later, on Teachers’ day, the retired Mrs. Verma received a surprise package from one Dr. Muthuraman, M.D….whom she instantly recognized as her favorite student Muthu! An inspiring story dedicated to all the teachers who shape us into who we are! Happy Teachers’ day to all the teachers!

That’s how winning is done!!!

Sylvester Stallone is one of the most famous American Movie stars.. With characters like Rocky and Rambo he is a household name in the hearts of millions.

During birth, a wrong gynecological procedure caused Stallone to have one sided paralysis. At school, his middle class being and his facial paralysis became a thing for others to make fun of.

He started body-building because he wanted to frighten those who bullied him. Slowly he started thinking of a career in movies.

Around 1974, he had a pregnant wife, a dog that he loved a lot, a lot of bills to pay and no success in his movie career.

What he still had was a belief in his dream that he will make it big.

Soon a time came when he went broke. He was heavily under debt.

Restless, anxious, stressed and still loaded with hope that he WILL make it big.

Things got so bad that he had to sell his wife’s jewelry and ended up homeless. Sleeping at the New York Bus station for 3 days.

The cold American winter forced him to choose between electricity and his dog. He stood outside a local store and sold his dog for $25.

Two weeks later, on TV he watched a boxing match between Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner. That match was like a flash of divine inspiration… For the next 20 hours he sat and wrote the script of what today is a cult movie, ROCKY.

In the words of Stallone himself, “After nearly 1500 rejections”,  he got a production house to offer $125,000 for the script.

Despite the poverty, pains, pregnant wife and lost dog… His dream was to STAR in the movie  as the MAIN LEAD.

In an era when heroes were super handsome men and spoke fluently, a body builder with a facial paralysis that made him stammer while speaking, made Stallone the wrong choice for any role.

The studio bluntly rejected his offer… And Stallone went back home with another failure.

A few weeks later, the studio offered him  $250,000 for the just the script, and not him.

He refused.

Soon they offered  $350,000 for the script but not him.

At that time everyone was pushing him to accept.. It would be MAD not to do so.. He was making a fortune.

He still refused.

Someone in the studio really loved his script, and as fortune favors the brave.. They finally accepted to give $35,000 for the script and have him as the lead star.

The rest as they say is history!

The movie was made for $1 million and went to make around $200 million.

It won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Direction and Best Film Editing.

Stallone was a “bankable” hero for the next 20yrs, till the late 90s… with his movies making billions of dollars.

And what did he do with the first $35,000?

He stood outside the liquor store, where he sold his dog, for 3 days. Identified the man who had bought it, and finally got him back for $15,000.

AND IN THE WORDS OF ROCKY BALBOA –
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
